Did You Know This About Ginger Cats?

Here's a piece of trivia about our orange-coloured cat friends....

Most ginger cats are male....this is because the gene that determines fur colour in felines is carried in the X chromosome and female cats actually have two X chromosomes which means that both chromosomes have to carry the ginger fur gene for the cat to be ginger/orange.

In female cats, if one X chromosome is ginger/orange and one is another fur colour this blending will result in the cat being a tortoiseshell or calico cat.

Around 75% of cats with orange fur are male.
